Tracking Our Progress in FY2006

In this section, we will report on the work taking place in eight areas of activity between our 2005 Conference held in San Francisco and the next IMA Conference scheduled for February 21-24 in Seattle, WA. 

We will use this page as an executive summary of activity, and create subsections for each of the eight elements, as information and activity develops. 


1: Build community among web professionals and other staff in public broadcasting who recoginze the importance of new media service.

Progress to date:

  • Recruit panel of advisors including, Frank Hamilton, WAMU; Jack Brighton, WILL; Jeanne Griffin, WXPN; Laura Fedele, WFUV; Paul Stackhouse, KET; Tammy Carpowich, KPBS; Valentina Powers, WNYC.
  • Launch Bulletin Board under the direction of Sean Byrne, WXPN;
  • Launch "Q+A," weekly digest of discussion launched, edited by Amber Buchholz. Use this link to Register for the weekly Digest

2. Increase the impact of web service in public broadcasting's coverage of 2006 election.

Progress to date:

  • Initiate web conference scheduled for May, under the direction of American Public Media.

 3. Increase PTV participation in the IMA and in the 2006 Seattle Conference.

Progress to date:

  • Initiate membership recruitment effort aimed at leading PTV stations and joint licensees. Visits to Michigan Public Radio and TV, Kentucky Educational Televison, WOSU AM/FM/TV. 
  • Initiate a webconference among PTV stations, scheduled for June on "building traffic to local station sites." 

 4. Continue discussion of the Public Service Publisher Project.

Progress to date:

  • Negotiations now underway to assess the value of an outside service provider.  Beta project will be announced soon.

5. Continue discussion of the iTAP Project and the development of standardized metrics.

Progress to date:

  • In April, IMA Board votes to initiate RFP with major metrics providers.  To the extent feasible, work will be coordinated with NPR and PBS.  Report due in June for action in FY2006. 
  • Initial contacts began in mid-April.

 6. Continuing the discussion of improved search capability throughout public radio and TV

7. Continue the development of e-mail techniques, building on the "New Basics" Project

8. Continuing the development of national and local underwriting initiatives.
