Founding of
PRISA
|
Representatives from five stations, WXPN, KPLU, New Hampshire Public Radio, WKSU and Nebraska Public Radio meet at the Fall NAB Radio conference to evaluate the state of Radio/Internet. The meeting leads directly to the creation of the Public Radio Internet Station Alliance, PRISA.

|
Expansion and Initial Activities
|
Vermont Public Radio, Wisconsin Public Radio and WUSF, North Country Public Radio and WBUR join PRISA. Stations conduct "Bottom Line Innovation" seminars to develop ideas and strategies for online service. PRISA circulates an RFP and retains Thoughtbubble Design, a New York web firm, to explore potential for online collaboration.

CPB Online Membership Project
|
Four member stations and McPherson Associates develop the “CPB Online Membership Toolkit” and webpledgetools.org, public radio’s primary online fundraising resource.

With support from PRISA, KPBS develops a partnership with the California League of Women Voters to create an interactive, online election resource.

|
Four member stations initiate a strategic assessment of online music streaming. This research discovered (a) options that could reduce costs by 75%, and (b) significant stream-related revenues generated by the top music-oriented public stations.

New Basics Project
|
Initiate a collaboration between NPR and 12 stations to explore and test e-mail marketing techniques, including e-newsletters, e-pledge, and e-renewals.

CPB Internet Assessment
|
Exec. Director Mark Fuerst heads a CPB-sponsored project that contacts 100 public radio and TV stations, reviews 80 research publications, and develops the first comprehensive picture of online activity and station-based Internet planning within public radio.

IMa Conference
|
Assume responsibility for organizing the annual public broadcasting "web summit," supported by CPB, NPR, PBS, PRI, and Public Interactive.

Reorganize the iMa Board to include representatives from NPR, PBS and PRI. Include TV Board members.

First CBC/U.S. Web meeting
|
Initiate a meeting between the senior management of CBC.ca, Canada's national broadcasting web operation, and top U.S. public broadcasting Internet executives.

2nd IMa Conference
|
Organize the 2004 "web summit," and include the first Executive Management Seminar, aimed at preparing senior level station and network executives to "Manage Our Online Services." Scheduled for April 28-30 in San Diego.
